BALLINGER - The Last Chapter (TLC), aka Old Town Christmas, Winter Wonderland, and The Pumpkin Patch, has been growing bigger and better every day since they opened about 5 years ago. The fall pumpkin patch features over 2,000 pumpkins every year. The Old Town Christmas features an Old West town, complete with goats, chickens, turkeys, African porcupines, and... a baboon named Darby. Yes, a real living, breathing baboon.

FROM THE EDITOR

Sometimes the year flies by faster than we realize. I think as we get older we learn to savor our time and to make the most of it. We watch our children grow into adults and then have children of their own. If we’re truly lucky, we get to see our grandchildren grow up to have children of their own.

Elon Joe Allcorn

Friday, November 18, 2022, with his wife of 66 years by his side, holding his hand, Joe Allcorn left his earthly body to be reunited with his heavenly loved ones who have been missed for years. Elon Joe Allcorn was born on February 28, 1935, on a farm near Crews, Texas, the eldest son of William Lonnie Allcorn and Anna Willeen (Day) Allcorn of Talpa, Texas. He graduated from Talpa High School in May 1953, Howard Payne College in August 1956, Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1957, and Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at SMU Dallas in 1986. Joe married Shirley Ann Rowe, of Talpa on August 28, 1956. Their family grew to include four sons - Richard, Michael, Stephen and Jeffrey. Joe’s family always came first to him and he unapologetically loved them all beyond measure. Joe worked in the funeral home business for many years before moving to the banking industry. He and his wife Shirley decided to settle in Round Rock where he was the VP for First State Bank. Joe already had his real estate broker’s license and used it in his banking operations. It was no surprise when he and Shirley purchased a RE/MAX franchise and opened the 1st RE/MAX office in Round Rock. They continued until retirement in 2010 and moved to San Angelo to be near family and friends in retirement. Joe was a devout Christian, a deacon of the church, a Sunday school teacher, and so much more. He has influenced so many during his years. Elon Joe Allcorn is preceded in death by both his parents, Lonnie and Willeen Allcorn, his brothers Foy Allcorn and Leon Allcorn, and his youngest son Jeffrey Allcorn. He is survived by his wife Shirley Ann (Rowe) Allcorn (San Angelo, Texas); his remaining three sons Rich (Jane) Allcorn (Austin, Texas), Mike (Leslie) Allcorn (McKinney, Texas), and Steve (Caroline) Allcorn (Argyle, Texas); grandchildren - Joshua Allcorn, John Allcorn, Joseph (Emily) Morgenstern, Zane (Ashley) Allcorn, Brittany (Scott) Lowe, Christopher (Katie) Allcorn, Charlie Deeter,

Michael Moore Egan

Michael Moore Egan, 87, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, November 14, 2022. He was born on August 10, 1935, to Thomas and Mable (Moore) Egan in Ballinger, Texas. One of the last surviving members of the Ballinger Bearcat 1953 State Finalist Football Team, he was a proud Bearcat. On February 14, 1958, he married the love of his life, Virginia Lee Harral, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Together they shared over 64 years and built a beautiful family in the process. While he was a dairyman, Michael also served on multiple boards including president of the school board, 1971 Star Young Farm, Associated Milk Producers Incorporated, 1985 Rural Citizen of the Year. Mike also served in the military as a member of the Army National Guard. While he loved the great outdoors, especially his family farm, what made it the most special are the memories he made there with his family, whom he adored. Mike was the proudest of his daughters and his grandchildren that called him “Gaggy.” He was quoted as always saying he “had the perfect life.” He treasured the times spent for 78 years on the farm west of Ballinger on the Colorado River. The memories he made first with his wife Jenny, his three girls, the grandchildren, and most recently his great-grandchildren were his perfect life. These memories spanned decades of picnics on the river, midnight irrigation runs, holidays around the table, and singing around the piano. Michael is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Mable Egan, his sister Anne Hermann, brothers Tommy and Danny Egan, his father- and mother-inlaw James and Hazel Harral, brothers-in-law Elmer Harral and Paul Harral, and sisters-in-law Dorothy Camp, Darline Jones, and Mary Cole. He is survived by his wife Virginia, daughters Terry Graham of Abilene, Michele Jones and husband Brent of Ballinger, and Carolyn Studer and husband Tom of Ballinger. He will be tenderly missed as well by his grandchildren
