Dear Reader, As you can see, we continue to change and improve your newspaper for the better. We have now added two additional color pages. Instead of having the only color pages as A1 and A10, we will now have A1, A2, A9, A10 as color pages. We may expand this even further in the future.

What to expect

A quarter century ago, when I was expecting my daughter, someone gifted me the book What to Expect When You’re Expecting. As I recall, I looked up specifi c topics only after I experienced them and thought, “What in the heck?” For example, I recall one shopping trip when I tried to squeeze through a narrow aisle between racks of clothes. It would have been plenty room for not-pregnant Renae. But somehow, my brain didn’t register that my body now needed room for two people to pass.

As a kid I always had a terrible time with anger and frustration. I had a terrible temper. I got in trouble more times than not for getting mad and throwing something or breaking something and despite getting in trouble it never seemed that I could get a grasp on controlling my anger. My anger opened my mouth and, it wasn’t a good mix.

Winters VS Cross Plains

WINTERS - It was an emotional game for the Cross Plains Buffaloes who came into Winters on Friday night to take on the Blizzards. On August 8th, Cross Plains student athlete Ryan Hopkins was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident. Hopkins, a senior, was a member of the football team and had played on varsity for three years. As with most schools in 2A and 3A, Hopkins played multiple positions, including wide receiver and safety.

I was deeply moved by the show of support from the people of Winters to the people of Cross Plains at the football game on Friday. As it says in the article, Cross Plains student and athlete Ryan Hopkins died tragically in an automobile accident on August 8th. I have lost a son and know the pain of losing a child, as many others know, unfortunately. There is no pain like it, and it never eases up. Sometimes bearing that pain alone can be paralyzing.
