WINTERS - Winters ISD will be losing a valued member of the athletic staff as this school year comes a close. Coach Valton Acree, who has coached girls basketball, Cross Country and tennis, will be departing for a similar position at Yorktown ISD near San Antonio this summer.

Acree, who has been with Winters ISD for the past four years, had an impressive record this year leading the Winters Lady Blizzards to a Bi-District Basketball Championship this year.

This was the first time the Lady Blizzards had made the playoffs in seven years, Acree said.

And the Lady Blizzards, after winning a total of 21 games, were named third in the district.

“It was pretty special,” Acree said. “It’s been a great year.”

Acree has been in education for the past 21 years as a coach and teacher. He has doubled as an English teacher during his time at Winters ISD

Acree is leaving with a heavy heart and he plans to hang on to all of his “Blizzards blue” attire.
