The Ballinger Lady Cats snagged the Bi-District Championship after logging a solid 18-8 win over the Kermit Lady Jackets on Friday, April 27 in Snyder.

Coach Scott Freeman said the Lady Cats had finished second in district behind Wall before claiming their latest victory.

The Lady Cats pulled out the victory in the fifth inning, scoring nine runs and bringing the score to 13-8. Then in the sixth, the Lady Cats would rake in another five points, claiming the Bi-District win.

The Lady Cats got off to a tough start at the beginning of the season playing some tough opponents like Merkel and Eastland. The record for the Lady Cats is 19-10 this season.

“We’ve really been playing well,” Freeman said adding that all of the non-district teams they’ve played are in the play offs.

“We took some losses early on, but it helped us in the long run,” Freeman said. “It helped us get ready for where we are now.”

Standouts in Friday’s game against Kermit included pitchers Kenzey Sanchez and Daniella Luna.

“They pitched really well during the game,” Freeman said.

Hitting wise, Lauren Landers and Emily West and teammates Lauren Jalomo and Grace Rutledge did a good job.

“They got on base and that is what counted,” Freeman said.

The Lady Cats will take on Amarillo River Road at the Lubbock Cooper on Friday and Saturday. Wins at these games could take the girls to the Regional Quarter Finals.

Freeman said the fans following the Lady Cats really helps pump up the excitement during the games.

“We had a great crowd come to Snyder,” Freeman said. “They were loud and the girls fed off of that. If we can get that kind of support this week that would be great!”
