It was a good year for a handful of Runnels County football players who were picked for the coveted All West Texas Teams selected announced by the San Angelo Standard Times on Friday. The annual list is comprised of players from 31 teams throughout West Texas, 29 of which are in Divisions 1A, 2A and 3A.

The annual list is comprised of players from 31 teams throughout West Texas, 29 of which are in Divisions 1A, 2A and 3A.

Bearcats Jace King and Cooper Bean were selected for the 3A All West Texas Team, while Winters Blizzard Chris Diaz and Miles Bulldogs Mason Bryan and Jonas Garcia were picked for the 2A team.

3A All West Texas Team

Jace King, Ballinger

5-10, 260, Sr.

Repeat AWT selection at offensive line, first-team all-district offensive and defensive tackle, graded out at 94 percent with 33 pancake blocks, helped lead Bearcats to the playoffs under new head Coach Chuck Lipsey.

Cooper Bean, Ballinger

5-10, 190, Soph.

District 3-3A Division II newcomer of the year, finished with 135 tackles, 82 solo and 53 assists, 12 tackles for loss and five sacks as he helped lead the Bearcats to the Division II playoffs.

2A All West Texas Team

Chris Diaz, Winters

5-10, 190, Sr.

The District 6-2A Division II MVP was one of the top running backs in the area, accounting for 1,287 yards rushing and 20 TDs. He also split time at quarterback. As a linebacker, he had 87 tackles, two sacks and one pick.

Mason Bryan, Miles

5-8, 165, Jr.

The junior helped the Bulldogs reach the playoffs. He rushed for 1,150 yards and seven TD's and had a total of 1,221 all-purpose yards. On the other side of the ball, he had three interceptions.

Jonas Garcia, Miles

5-9, 185, Sr.

Garcia was a two-way threat for the Bulldogs and helped them reach the playoffs. As a running back, he finished with 827 yards rushing and 12 TDs. Defensively, he had 75 tackles from his linebacker spot.
