The Winters Lady Blizzards made the two-and-a-half hour bus ride to Ozona on Tuesday and came away with an impressive 71-39 district win over the Lady Lions.

The Lady Blizzards jumped out to an early 9-4 lead before Ozona battled back to take a 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Blizzards exploded in the second quarter, outscoring Ozona, 24-9, to take a 35-21 halftime lead.

In the 4th quarter, the onslaught continued, as the Lady Blizzards, behind nine points from Green, outscored Ozona, 20-10, for the 71-39 final margin. Green led all scorers with 21 points, while Carrillo had 18. Karlee Busher, Skylar Lee and Marley Smith each had eight points.

“This may have been the best game we’ve played in three years,” said Lady Blizzards head Coach Val Acree. “Except for about a three minute stretch in the first quarter, we played about as well as we can play. Our norm this year has been to play one or two really good quarters and sit back and let the other team back in the game. But, I felt like we put together four really good quarters tonight. If we can build off of this, there’s no telling what will happen down the road.”

The win improves Winters’ record to 13-6 on the season and 1-1 in District 7-2A play. E Winters is in a three-way tie for third in district play with Ozona and Eldorado. Christoval at 3-0 and Forsan at 2-1 currently hold down the first and second place spots. The Lady Blizzards next district game will be January 2nd at home against Eldorado. Over the Christmas holidays, Winters will play in the Anson Tournament, December 27 and 28, 2017. The Lady Blizzards will open up the tournament at 10:40am on the 27th against Whitney. Later in the day, Winters will play Anson at 6:40pm. Tournament play will be bracket play on the 28th.
