The Winters Lady Blizzards opened up District 7-2A with a 47-29 loss to the Forsan Lady Buffs last Friday night in Forsan. The first quarter went back and forth with Forsan leading 14-12.

Midway through the second quarter, Forsan led 19-18. That was when things went ice cold for Winters, as Forsan went on a 21-1 run from which the Lady Blizzards were never able to recover. Monique Carrillo led the Lady Blizzards with points and seven rebounds. Karlee Busher had nine rebounds and Aimee Green had five assists.

“Their size really hurt us,” said Lady Blizzards head coach Val Acree. They have two girls over 6-feet tall and one almost 6-foot and they gave us serious matchup problems. Even so, we were still in the game, but missed free throws, turnovers, and not rebounding were our downfall.”

In the JV game, the JV Lady Blizzards lost 49-12. Miranda Rodriguez had six points.

The Lady Blizzards (12-6, 0-1) traveled to Ozona on Tuesday for their last district game before the Christmas break.
