The Lady Blizzards won five out of six games this past week to improve their overall record to 11-4 on the season. On Tuesday, the Lady Blizzards hosted the Water Valley Lady Wildcats, posting a 44-35 win.
Winters trailed 19-17 at halftime, before taking control of the game in the second half, out-scoring Water Valley, 27-16, for the final margin. Monique Carrillo had 21 points and nine rebounds, while Karlee Busher had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Aimee Green had five assists and four steals. Busher and Baily Knight had four steals apiece. The Lady Blizzards JV picked up its third win of the season with a 29-22 win over Water Valley’s JV. Miranda Rodriguez had 12 points.
In the Ballinger Classic Tournament, the Lady Blizzards were in Pool A with Ballinger, Merkel and San Angelo Lakeview. On Thursday, Winters opened up pool play with an exciting 47-43 win over the host Ballinger Lady Cats. Green had 18 points, including four 3-pointers, while Carrillo had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Busher hauled in 13 rebounds, as well.
In their second game on Thursday, the Lady Blizzards came out flat and lost to Merkel, 52-29. Busher had 12 points and 14 rebounds. On Friday, Winters played their final game of pool play, defeating San Angelo Lakeview, 54-50. Green had 17, while Busher had 12 points to go along with eight rebounds. With three teams (Ballinger, Merkel, Winters) tied with a 2-1 pool play record, Winters moved into the Silver (Consolation bracket) based on point differential.
On Saturday, the Lady Blizzard defeated Clyde, 50-45. Green had 19 points, while Busher had 13 points and 14 rebounds. In the Consolation Championship, Winters faced Lakeview again, winning 27-23. Marley Smith had eight points, while Busher had six points and nine rebounds.
The Lady Blizzards (11-4) traveled to Grape Creek on Tuesday and Eden on Friday, to wrap up their non-district schedule. They will open up District 7-2A play on the road at Forsan on December 15 and at Ozona on December 19.
