In their Sanger basketball tournament finale on Saturday, Dec. 2, the Melissa Cardinals fell in overtime to Class 6A Tyler John Tyler, 71-64. With a 20-12 burst in the fourth-quarter, the Cards rallied to tie the contest in regulation, 62-all. Forward Josh Wood posted a team-high 22 points for Melissa (2-3) while guards Matt Holloway and Mark Fisher added 18 and 14 points, respectively.


John Tyler’s lead at halftime was 34-25.


On Friday, Dec. 1, Melissa defeated host-team Sanger, 69-49, boosted by the Cards’ dominant play in the second and third quarters. Guard Mark Fisher collected a game-high 22 points and forward Josh Wood poured in 21 for the Cardinals. Melissa led, 36-25, at halftime.
