The Winters Lady Blizzards opened up their 2017-18 season last week, splitting their games with a 51-28 win over Rule and a 55-40 loss to Hamlin.

The Winters Lady Blizzards opened up their 2017-18 season last week, splitting their games with a 51-28 win over Rule and a 55-40 loss to Hamlin.

The Lady Blizzards traveled to Rule on Tuesday to face the Lady Bobcats. The first half was close, as Winters took a 28-18 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Lady Blizzards defense stepped up, only allowing Rule to score 10 points, while scoring 23 for the final margin.

Senior Monique Carrillo almost had a triple-double, as she tallied 23 points, 12 rebounds and nine steals. Senior Aimee Green had 12 points, including three 3-pointers. Senior Cha-Cha Lovelace picked up six assists.

On Saturday, Winters hosted the Hamlin Lady Pipers and came out on the short end of a 55-40 loss. The Lady Pipers used a 20-6 second quarter to pull away from the Lady Blizzards and lead at halftime 34-16. Hamlin would extend its lead to 20 points, before Winters mounted a furious comeback.

The Lady Blizzards were able to cut the lead down to ten points, at 40-30, but were never able to get any closer. Lovelace and Carrillo led the scoring with ten points apiece, while Senior Baily Knight added nine points to go along with five steals. Carrillo also had nine rebounds to go along with four steals, while Senior Brenna Knight had six rebounds.

The Lady Blizzards Junior Varsity opened up their season on Saturday against the Hamlin Lady Piper JV falling 47-24. Freshman Sugar Hunter led all scorers with 14 points while hauling in 19 rebounds.

The Lady Blizzards Varsity and Junior Varsity had a busy week, as they travel to Blackwell on Tuesday. Then, both teams will compete in the Roscoe Invitation Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
