District 30-5A is one of the most competitive districts in the state. It’s home to a state-ranked regional contender and last year’s Region IV representative at the state tournament called the district home.

So in a district loaded with talent, it’s easy to see how wins are often at a premium.

The Alice Lady Coyotes know that. They collected their first victory in 30-5A this season Friday by beating Corpus Christi Miller in three games. Alice defeated Miller, 25-20, 25-15 and 25-13. The Lady Coyotes’ record improved to 1-9 in 30-5A.

Gabby Canales, Megan Lopez and Katelyn Hernandez had two kills each. Lia Salazar and Alyssa Laso had two assists each. Mireya Villarreal had three blocks.

Lazo led the team with 17. Sabrina Cantu had 14 and Canales had 10. Hernandez led the team in aces with two.
