CARROLLTON — The Denison Lady Yellow Jackets picked up a pair of victories at the Nike ASC Classic on Thursday.


Denison opened with a 25-14, 25-19 victory against Saginaw and then edged Crowley, 25-18, 23-25, 25-18.


Kiara Scott had seven kills and four digs against Saginaw while Taylor Greenameyer added six kills and five digs, Courtney Gillespie totaled 16 assists, four digs, two blocks and two aces, Kenli Powell chipped in three kills and Taylor Dawes collected eight digs.


In the win against Crowley, Greenameyer had 12 kills, Scott added seven kills and five digs, Gillespie finished with 22 assists, six digs, four aces and four kills, Drew Hayes put down three kills and Dawes collected eight digs.


The Lady Jackets (3-0) continue play at the tournament today against Argyle, Frisco and Plano East.


In other action at the Nike ASC Classic on Thursday, Melissa moved to 4-0 with a pair of victories.


The Lady Cardinals defeated Kennedale, 25-14, 23-25, 25-21, and Decatur, 9-25, 25-20, 25-10, before starting pool play today.


Callisburg also picked up a 25-21, 25-19 victory against Aubrey.


Roxton Tournament


Dodd City goes 2-1


ROXTON — The Dodd City Lady Hornets went 2-1 on the first day of the Roxton Tournament.


Dodd City beat Tom Bean, 25-17, 25-18, and North Hopkins, 25-17, 18-25, 15-10, to go with a 26-24, 17-25, 14-16 loss against Detroit.


Sarah Brent had four kills and two digs against Tom Bean while Abby Weeks handed out six assists and Madelyn Underwood collected three digs.


In the win against North Hopkins, Brent finished with six kills and four digs, Weeks handed out 11 assists, Underwood chipped in three kills and two digs and Cassandra Woodlee added three digs.


Weeks had 10 assists, three kills and two blocks against Detroit while Brent and Underwood each put down four kills, and Journie Hilliard totaled two kills and five blocks for Dodd City (3-1).

HOWE — The Anna Lady Coyotes rallied for a 19-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-17, 15-9 victory against Howe in non-district action.
