EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — Denison’s Lindsay Looney was the runner-up in the 200 meter butterfly at the Junior National Championships on Tuesday night at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.

Looney finished in a time of 2:09.22, which was just behind the winning time — which was also the meet record — of 2:09.02 by Olivia Carter. Looney’s time also broke the old meet mark set in 2010.

Her effort was also the fourth-fastest in the country in the event for her age group of 15-16 years old.

As a sophomore Looney was the Class 5A state champion in both the 200 individual medley at 2:01.70, her second straight gold in the event, and the 100 butterfly in a 5A-record time of 54.41 seconds.
