WINTERS – The Winters Blizzards are looking ahead to the coming football season and with two-a-days starting Aug. 7, Coach Matt McCarty is ready to get the team on track.

Coming in to the season with a 2-8 record from last year, McCarty said it is imperative that the Blizzards snag a play off spot.

“We'd love to win every game but our main goal is to get into the play offs,” McCarty said.

The first day, will be Monday, Aug. 7 and the session will be held from 7 a.m to 10 a.m. The schedule varies until school starts on Aug. 22. All players and parents have been notified of the schedule, McCarty said.

Scrimmages are slated Aug. 18 with Eldorado/Roby and on Aug. 25 with the Ballinger Bearcats. The first official game of the season will be Sept. 1 against San Saba.

The Blizzards lost eight seniors last year, but will have 19 returning lettermen, McCarty said.

“It is kind of tough to tell where we are until the second week (of two-a-days),” he said.

But he is hopeful that the slate of returning players, will be a plus.

“Just being able to play on Friday night instead of Thursday nights and getting those jitters out of the way is a good thing,” McCarty said. “We have those that will be providing depth for us and who already have experience.”

McCarty is pleased with the schedule and said “all of the teams are good in our district.”

The official line up of the team will be determined after two-a-days training.
