Demetra Lee Holder, 99, passed to her new home in heaven on September 2, 2017, in Granbury, TX. She was born to Clarice and Flossie Kirkland on October 15, 1917. She attended school in Wingate, TX. until she married Weldon Hurley and moved to Sulphur Springs, TX. Their daughter, Jan Hurley Boggan, was born and shortly thereafter Mrs. Holder returned to Wingate. She married Dean Holder July 13, 1939. They had one son, Tommy Kirk Holder, born on November 16, 1945. The family stayed in Wingate for many years before moving to Abilene in 1959. Mrs. Holder returned to school at McMurry and Hardin Simmons where she received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters Degree of Education in 1965. She taught 3rd grade at Fairpark Elementary School many years retiring in 1978. She loved her job and we never went anywhere that her previous students would see her and yell “Hi, Mrs. Holder”. She would always stop and chat with them. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, TSTA and Calvary Baptist Church in Abilene.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan, son, Kirk, and daughter-in-law, Jeannette. She has five grandchildren, Amy Boggan Cox of Lewisburg, Ohio, Mary LeAnn Boggan Prickett of Granbury, TX., Jeff Perry of Antioch, TN., Janell Holder of Weatherford, TX and Kirk D. Holder of North Richland Hills, TX. She has six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Holder was active in many clubs and church affairs. She loved helping people and will be truly missed by her family and many friends.

Funeral services will be led by Reverend John Tunnell at Winters Funeral Home, Winters, TX. At 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 9, 2017. Following the services, she will be laid to rest at the Wingate cemetery. The family invites you to celebrate the extraordinary life of this amazing woman.
