Tarleton State University junior Samantha Cayton was recently crowned the 2018 Miss Rodeo Texas.

“When I heard my name and the title of Miss Rodeo Texas together I couldn’t believe it,” Cayton said. “I feel so honored to be a part of such an elite group of women.”

Cayton is a native of Lufkin and is studying animal science at Tarleton.

She won photogenic, appearance and the prestigious category of horsemanship.

Cayton is a member of the Tarleton Wildlife Society, Masters of Beef Advocacy, Collegiate FFA Association and the Tarleton Block and Bridle Association. She also volunteers with the Tarleton Round Up.

She is also a barrel racer and recently learned to rope.

“Anything is possible when you put your mind to it and give it all you have,” Cayton said. “Not matter what background you may come from, you can do anything you set your mind to. I want to leave behind hope for the next generation of strong cowgirls.”

The Miss Rodeo Texas pageant has been a Texas tradition since 1959.
