First I note with regret that the article on insect repellents had significant omissions: When using sprays, do not spray directly on the face and do not apply to children's hands.

First I note with regret that the article on insect repellents had significant omissions: When using sprays, do not spray directly on the face and do not apply to children's hands. When using on children, apply to your own hands and then apply to the neck. Use sparingly on the ears and face, avoiding the areas around the eyes and mouth.

And now I want to say how much I appreciated the contribution from Tami Halfmann that appeared in this location two weeks ago. I look forward to still other healthcare professionals in our community taking advantage of the tremendous opportunity for outreach through this newspaper. It is because of the vision and generosity of the editor, Celinda Hawkins, that The Health and Wellness Coalition of Runnels County has this weekly opportunity for education of our patients and the public. Anyone who wishes to submit an item for publication may send it to me for review: drbundrant@bmhd.org. My thanks also go out to Ms. Hawkins for her unflagging support of the medical community as well as to the numerous individuals who encourage me and provide comments on the column each week.

People are always interested in their own health, and that of their family. One of the things that I like about being a doctor is that I can offer an informed opinion when people ask me questions about their health. However, I am concerned about information overload and the medicalization of so many aspects of life. May is National Osteoporosis Prevention Month… and National Hepatitis Awareness Month as well as Stroke Prevention Month. Healthy and Safe Swimming week is May 23-29 and Heat Safety Awareness Day is May 27; in all, more than 3 dozen health related causes claim the month or some week or day in May as their own. If you are interested in promoting awareness in a particular cause, and want to time your efforts so as to coincide with a national campaign you can go to various internet sites, such as: https://www.healthline.com/health/directory-awareness-months for information.

As a final note I am happy to report that we had a very useful meeting last week, and are making good progress in Emergency and Disaster Preparedness. These plans will depend on multiple resources throughout the county, and we are inviting multiple stakeholders to the meeting planned for July 12. There is a great deal of work to be done before then, but it is important work. We will be asking many of you for your support and commitment. Please help if you can.
