Law enforcement in Runnels County was busy last weekend with several traffic stops that resulted in significant drug busts.

Early Sunday morning, officers with the Winters Police Department made a traffic stop at The Crossing on Highway 153 and three individuals were ultimately arrested for possession of a significant amount of marijuana and THC oil, officials from the Winters PD reported.

Officer Laramie Stone made stopped a 2013 Ford F150 pickup for speeding and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle where 30 pounds of marijuana and 461 grams of liquid THC were discovered in the pickup.

Those arrested included Jose D. Aguilar, 37, Raul Vargas, 28 and Ruby Macias, 25, all of San Antonio. Officials said the trio were traveling from Colorado back to San Antonio when they were stopped. All three were charged with possession of a controlled substance a first degree felony and possession of marijuana. The three remained in custody at the Runnels County Jail on Monday on bonds totaling $25,000 each. All three posted bond Sunday.

The Ballinger Police Department also made a drug bust late Sunday night, which resulted in felony charges for three individuals.

Ballinger Police Chief Stan Maresch said a significant amount of marijuana was discovered as well as THC oil. Details of the arrest were unavailable at press time.

Those arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana included Gabrielle A Burcaiga, 23, Antonio Morales, 43 and Ashley Medelez, 28. All remained in custody on Monday with bonds totaling $100,000 each. Burcaiga and Morales posted bond and were released Monday, while Medelez remains in custody.
