RUNNELS COUNTY -A tractor trailer rig hauling livestock overturned killing several cows early Friday morning officials from the Runnels County Sheriff's Department reported.

Reports indicate that dispatch received the call at 12:05 a.m regarding a tractor trailer accident on Highway 67 between Ballinger and Rowena.

"When units arrived a cattle truck was found over turned in the center median near County Road 244," Sheriff Carl Squyres reported.

Several cows were killed and others escaped the trailer, but were contained and transported elsewhere, Squyres said.

Officials reportedly believe the driver of the tractor trailer, who was not injured, fell asleep. The name of the driver was not available.

The truck belonged to Holman trucking company out of Jacksonville, Texas.

The Runnels County Sheriffs Office, Department Of Public Safety, Ballinger Fire Department and Texas Department of Transportation assisted with the accident.

The scene was cleared at approximately 9:40am Friday morning.
