BALLINGER - A Ballinger man was arrested last week following a burglary at the Bruce Field Airport in Ballinger, the Winters Airport and in Runnels County, officials with the Ballinger Police Department reported and the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Kevin Ballard, 34, was originally arrested on Sunday, March 25 after the Ballinger Police Department received a call regarding a subject with mental health issues. Police Chief Stan Maresch, said officers stopped Ballard as he was attempting to leave Bruce Field Airport in Ballinger.

Ballard was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, but police had already determined that he was a suspect in burglaries at the hangars in Ballinger as well as burglaries in Winters and out in the county.

Maresch said Ballard was evaluated by MHMR and was determined to be of sound mind following the incident.

Ballard was held until the Winters Police Department submitted a warrant for five counts of burglary of a building.

Runnels County Sheriff Carl Squyres said it was unclear what was stolen from the Winters airport, but said the burglary in the county involved the theft of a trailer, with a welder and cutting torches.

Ballard remains in custody at the Runnels County Jail on bonds totaling $210,000.

Maresch said each offense was considered a state jail felony, which is punishable by six months to two years in a state jail facility.
