The Texas Department of Transportation will begin their their project to replace large overhead guide signs along Interstate 27 in Swisher, Hale and Lubbock Counties starting April 2.

The $483,000 project with Vaca Underground Utilities Inc. of Houston will have crews starting in Swisher County and will work south, said TxDOT spokeswoman Dianah Ascencio.

"Motorists can expect various I-27 shoulder, frontage road and short-term exit closures," said Jeremy Dearing, TxDOT Lubbock operations engineer. "Impacts to mainlane traffic will be very minimal, but motorists should stay alert and minimize distractions when entering the work zone for their safety of the workers."

Work crews will additionally replace sign posts and drill shafts, said Ascencio. She said the project is anticipated to war up in late-July, and work will take place with weather permitting.
