RUNNELS COUNTY - Get ready for the 2018 Runnels County Music for Meals to be held Saturday, April 21, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Hall in Rowena and featuring the return of Grammy award winning singer/songwriter and guitar virtuoso Brad Davis and the band Crossfire.

ROWENA - Get ready for the 2018 Runnels County Music for Meals to be held Saturday, April 21, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Hall in Rowena and featuring the return of Grammy award winning singer/songwriter and guitar virtuoso Brad Davis and the band Crossfire.

All proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels Plus of Abilene and Meals for the Elderly in San Angelo, both of which provide meals to elderly and at-risk adults in Runnels County. Home delivered meals are provided to 150 Runnels County residents, in Winters, Ballinger, Miles, Rowena and Norton.

Sponsorships are available for corporate levels all the way to individual levels.

The inaugural event held in May of 2017 raised almost $28,000 to be used to provide meals for eligible clients in Runnels County.

Betty Bradley, executive director of Meals on Wheels Plus, called last year’s event a great success.

Davis a singer, songwriter and guitar player extraordinaire is headlining the event with his own brand of “Rockin’ Bluegrass Americana.” Tom Glosup and Crossfire are on the playbill as well and will be performing with Davis. So get ready for an evening of great music and dancing.

Davis, known for his signature ” double down flatpicking” guitar style, has played with a who’s who of musical royalty in the country, bluegrass and rock genres, including legends Earl Scruggs, Willie Nelson and Marty Stuart and others like Tim McGraw, Steve Earl, John Hiatt, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, Pam Tillis, Tommy Shaw of Styx, David Lee Roth and Sweethearts of the Rodeo. Plus, he’s performed on the Grand Ole Opry. He has also been in Billie Bob Thornton’s band “The Boxmasters” since 2002 and has scored two of his movies.

There are sponsorships available and include the Signature Sponsor for $5,000; Band Sponsor for $3,500; Stage Spotlight Sponsor for $2,500; Gold Guitar Sponsor for $1,500; Bluegrass Music Sponsor for $1,000 as well as the Country Music Sponsor for $750, Americana Music Sponsor for $500; Gospel Music Sponsor for $250, R & B Music Sponsor for $100 and Music Fan for $50.

Tickets can be purchased for $25 for the event which includes a pork loin dinner and all the trimmings, a live and silent auction and great music. Drive through meals will also be available for $15 each.

Meals on Wheels Plus and Meals For The Elderly have been providing meals in Runnels County since Oct. 3, 2016, after the county ceased funding for the senior meals program. Since then, the number of clients has more than doubled from the original 60 to 150.
