Ballinger High School students Laura Brown, Benjamin Colombo, and Clarice McKinnon received Division I (Superior) ratings and gold medals on Class 1 vocal solos (solos of a high difficulty level) at the Region 6 UIL Vocal Solo and Ensemble Contest, held at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Saturday, February 3.

Ballinger High School students Laura Brown, Benjamin Colombo, and Clarice McKinnon received Division I (Superior) ratings and gold medals on Class 1 vocal solos (solos of a high difficulty level) at the Region 6 UIL Vocal Solo and Ensemble Contest, held at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Saturday, February 3.

Jackson Miller also received a Division I rating and gold medal on Saturday, January 27, at McMurray University in Abilene. Each of these students qualified for participation in the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest, to be held at a site to be determined in the Austin area on May 26, 27, and 28.

Ida Lee Ellis played the piano accompaniments for the students.

Dale Ellis is sponsor of secondary choral activities. BISD Band Directors Janet Wilson and Matthew Cleveland, and Theater Arts Director Deidra Dallas assisted the students in their preparation for the contest and Miss Dallas co-sponsored the event February 3. Parents Ellen McKinnon and Kathleen Brown were present for their students’ respective events.

"We extend our congratulations to each of these for their outstanding musical achievements," Dale Ellis said.
