Toys for Kids

Runnels County Sheriff Carl Squyres wants the public to know that the 35-year tradition of Toys for Kids will continue this year, and toys and donations will be collected by the Runnels County Sheriff's Office. Each year, businesses and individuals make both monetary donations and donations of toys, clothing and other items. The RCSO will start collecting after Thanksgiving. Mark your calendar to continue this tradition to help children in Runnels County have a wonderful Christmas.

Health and Wellness Coalition to meet

BALLINGER - The Health and Wellness Coalition for Runnels County will meet at 7 p.m. tonight in the meeting room at Keel Drug in Ballinger. Dr. Bradly Bundrant will be discussing the goals of the organization moving forward. The article schedule will also be discussed at the meeting.

Toby Virden Gun Raffle

A gun raffle benefiting Toby Virden is underway in Runnels County. Virden, who is known throughout the community as the emcee for the annual Runnels County Livestock Show and has been involved sponsoring and working on many 4-H and FFA events and projects. The voice of the Ballinger Bearcats for many years, Virden has also worked in law enforcement and most recently for the West Central Texas Council of Governments. The raffle is being held to help defer medical costs. The raffle includes chances to win a PSA AR 15 and a Remington RP9 9 mm pistol with a $100 rebate, a $250 gift certificate to Brady Bunch Boutique, a bone-in smoked ham from Sklenariks and basic deer processing by Owens Processing and The Twisted Willow. Tickets are $20 each and are available at Brady Bunch Boutique, Apples ’n Spice, the Ballinger Area Chamber of Commerce, Ballinger City Hall and Sklenarik’s in Miles. Tickets are also available with Lane and Martha Pinckney, Amanda Collom, Keith Collom, Bobbie Collom in Winters, Ashley Wiley, Amy Sensabaugh and Susan Hallford. The drawing will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20 on KRUN.

Win a week with Skid Steer

BALLINGER - The Ballinger Noon Lions Club is selling tickets for one week of use of a John Deere Skid Steer. This is ideal for landowners, business owners and professionals who are looking to increase profits on a small project. Immunization clinic

Texas Department of State Health Services will have an immunization and flu clinic for children with Medicaid, no insurance or under insured and adults with no insurance in Winters from 10 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 3 p.m. today, at the Professional Building, 110 South Main, Suite 108. For questions or to make an appointment, please call 325-754-4945. Please use rear entrance (Grant Street). Please bring the child's immunization records. If the child is on Medicaid, please bring the card. There will not be a Ballinger clinic this month due to the run off election.

Senior Citizen lunch

BALLINGER - The First United Methodist Church in Ballinger will provide a free lunch to Ballinger senior citizens on the second Tuesday of each month at the Senior Citizens Center. The meal will be served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The doors will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to make time for seniors attending to have time for visiting and fellowship. Anyone who needs a ride to the lunch, please call 365-2323. Wheelchairs cannot be transported.

Visit the local art gallery

BALLINGER - Make plans to come by the Art Gallery located in the lobby of the Cook Professional Building at 804 Hutchins Ave. in downtown Ballinger. Visitors will see a variety of paintings on display by a featured artist of the month plus other art from members of the Mid-West Texas Artist Guild at the Do-Art Studio. The exhibit and sale times are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and varied times on Friday.

Meals on Wheels volunteers needed

RUNNELS COUNTY - Do you want to do something to help your fellow community members? Volunteers are needed as new clients have been added to the Meals on Wheels Plus program in Runnels County. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To volunteer call Gene Roggenkamp in Ballinger at 325-280-0042 or Lupe Vasquez in Winters at 325-665-9341.

Winters Library news

WINTERS - The Winters Public Library has public access Internet computers and free WiFi. The library is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Screenings offered

WINTERS - Runnels County residents may obtain diabetes and blood pressure screenings at the Winters Public Library from 9 a.m. to noon the third Wednesday of each month. Do not eat before the screening for the best results. The library is closed at that time, so those wishing to obtain a screening must enter through the back door of the library o Grant Street. For the best results for this test, do not eat two hours before screening.

CASA volunteers wanted

The Children's Advocacy Center of Tom Green County, Inc. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is seeking volunteers. Currently CASA serves 60 percent of the children in foster care. Visit Friendly Neighbors

The Texas Extension Education Agency “Friendly Neighbors” invites everybody in the Runnels County area who is interested in learning about cooking, gardening, arts and crafts and other useful subjects to meetings at 2 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month (except during the summer). Meetings will alternate between the Runnels County Extension Office on the corner of south 7th Street and Sealy Ave. in Ballinger and the Winters Public Library at 120 N. Main St. in Winters. Masonic Lodge meeting

The Ballinger Masonic Lodge #643 meets on the first Monday evening of each month at 7 p.m. at the lodge at 500 North Broadway. A meal will be served following each meeting. All District 105 Masons and those in the area, are encouraged to attend and meet for fellowship.

Carnegie Library hours

BALLINGER - The Carnegie Library in Ballinger is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday. The library is currently closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Children's Story Hour will be held each Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Recycling Center Hours

The City of Ballinger’s Recycling Center, located at South 7th Street and Sealy Avenue, is open from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday. The recycling center is open from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Saturday, the recycling center is open from 8 a.m. to noon.

WIC open to many incomes and families

Women Infants and Children, (WIC) located at 706 Strong Ave. in Ballinger is open from 7 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. WIC is closed every third and fourth Monday of each month. Phone 325-365-5925.

The Wingate Masonic Lodge 1042 A.F. & A.M., meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month, at the Wilmeth Lodge.

Paint Rock Masonic Lodge meetings

The Paint Rock Masonic Lodge No. 613 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. Supper will be provided after the meeting held at the Masonic Lodge building located at 360 South Roberts on Highway 83 South.
