The Winters Lady Blizzards Varsity and JV basketball teams played host to the TLCA Lady Eagles, Monday, Nov. 20 before the Thanksgiving break and handed them both losses. The varsity Lady Blizzards defeated TLCA, 57-19.

The Winters Lady Blizzards Varsity and JV basketball teams played host to the TLCA Lady Eagles, Monday, Nov. 20 before the Thanksgiving break and handed them both losses. The varsity Lady Blizzards defeated TLCA, 57-19. Winters jumped to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter, increasing their lead to 26-12 at the half.

The Lady Blizzards blew the game open in the third quarter, outscoring TLCA 22-3, to take a 48-15 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, Winters outscored the Lady Eagles, 9-4, for the final 57-19 margin. Monique Carrillo had 23 points and seven rebounds, while Marley Smith had 10 points to go along with seven rebounds. Karlee Busher had nine points,10 rebounds and three steals. The varsity is now 6-3 on the season.

Lady Blizzard Karlee Busher was the star player last week. She is currently averaging 8.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. In Winters’ recent win over TLCA, she had nine points, 10 rebounds, eight deflections, three steals, two assists and a blocked shot.

In the JV girls’ game, the Lady Blizzards defeated the TLCA JV Lady Eagles, 44-11. Miranda Rodriguez had 16 points, while Hailey Renfro had 12. The JV is now 2-3 on the season.

This week, the Lady Blizzards will host Water Valley on Tuesday. Then, the JV will play in Robert Lee’s varsity Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (November 30 – December 2). They will open the tournament on Thursday, playing Robert Lee at 6 p.m.

The varsity will be playing in the Ballinger Classic, also on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. In pool play, they will play Ballinger at 8:30 a.m. and Merkel at 4 p.m. on Thursday, then play San Angelo Lakeview on Friday at 5:30 p.m. to set up the bracket play on Saturday.
