HILLSBORO — State rankings obviously do not mean a whole heck of a lot to the Maypearl Lady Panther volleyball team. Maypearl has now dropped two ranked teams in their last two matches and advanced to the 3A Region III tournament.

A few days after sweeping Texas Girls Coaches Association No. 3 Rogers, Maypearl knocked off No. 10 West in straight-set fashion Tuesday at Hillsboro High School, 25-16, 25-23, 25-19.

The Lady Panthers will now face (21-10) East Bernard in the regional semifinals Friday at Lobo Coliseum in Longview at 6 p.m. The 30-13 Lady Panthers will then, with a win, face the winner of Leon and Brazos on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, Madison Ball led all Maypearl attackers with 14 kills. Katie Gann added 13 and Peyton Pogue had 11. The Lady Panthers had 13 hitting errors as a team.

Phylicia Grimes led the team with four blocks, while Marissa Stottlemire added three and Gann had two.

Ball accounted for a team-high 34 digs. Pogue and Steelie Ledbetter chipped in 25 and 21 digs, each. Freshman setter Carsen Young led the team with 24 assists and Gann added 21.
