The Carl C. Anderson Sr. & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation in Austin has offered to match dollar-for-dollar all donations made to Meals on Wheels Plus, up to $30,000, to serve meals to people on the waiting list.

Meals on Wheels Plus currently receives Title XX funds through the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. It covers part of the cost of meals for a number of low-income people. But funding is limited and there is a waiting list of people who need free meals under Title XX.

All donations received will be eligible for the waiting list matching funds grant, which will provide meals for someone who is hungry, elderly, and/or disabled, in the Abilene, Hawley, Eula, Potosi, Winters, Ballinger and Rowena area.

“This Challenge Grant is an exciting opportunity, and it couldn’t come at a more critical moment”, said Betty Bradly, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Plus.

She went on to say “Meals on Wheels Plus is enduring a difficult time. A growing aging population — along with rising prices of food, utilities, and medical care, puts more seniors and adults with disabilities at risk. Every day we deliver more than 1,000 meals and the requests for meals arrive every day.”

Meals on Wheels Plus serves the frailest, most vulnerable and physically impaired adult neighbors throughout the Abilene area and much of Runnels County, and often provides the only nutritious meal and human contact they will receive in a day.

Please send contributions to Meals on Wheels Plus, Inc. - P. 0. Box 903, Abilene, TX 79604. You may also donate on-line at www.mealsonwheelsplus.com. Please be sure to add the word "waiting list" when making your donation.
