WINTERS – The Winters Dove Fest is will take flight on Saturday, Sept. 2 with a full line up of events including the Dove Dash Bike Race and Run, the Clay Pigeon Shoot, the Gun Show, a barbecue lunch in the park and a gun raffle. The Kris Gordon Band will be performing live music in the park.

WINTERS – The Winters Dove Fest is will take flight on Saturday, Sept. 2 with a full line up of events including the Dove Dash Bike Race and Run, the Clay Pigeon Shoot, the Gun Show, a barbecue lunch in the park and a gun raffle. The Kris Gordon Band will be performing live music in the park. There will also be a scholarship presented during the event. All proceeds from the Winters Dove Fest are given back to the youth and organizations of the community. Volunteers may sign up to work under their organization and receive credit for the hours worked. For more information email Info@wintersdovefest.com.

Senior Citizen lunch

BALLINGER - The First United Methodist Church in Ballinger will provide a free lunch to Ballinger senior citizens on the second Tuesday of each month at the Senior Citizens Center. The meal will be served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The doors will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to make time for seniors attending to have time for visiting and fellowship. Anyone who needs a ride to the lunch, please call 365-2323. Wheelchairs cannot be transported.

Miles Meet the Teacher

MILES - Miles Elementary will be conducting Meet the Teacher and Orientation from 5-6 p.m. Thursday August 24. Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to meet teachers, fill out ‘First Day Packet’ forms and pre-pay lunch accounts. Parents and students will have the opportunity to meet the teachers and drop off school supplies in the classroom prior to Orientation in the elementary dining hall. Meet the Bulldogs will follow Orientation at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym.

Winters Public Library Book Club

WINTERS – The members of the Winters Public Library Book Club met Monday, Aug. 7 and reviewed “The Girl With No Name” by Marina Chapman. The September meeting has been moved to 5 p.m. the second Monday of the month, which is Sept. 11 due to the Labor Day holiday. The book chosen for review will be “A Woman's Place," by Lynn Austin. The public is invited to attend.

Winters Public Library News

WINTERS - New books are arriving daily at the Winters Public Library including “Paradise” by C.J. Box and “The Prisoner” by Alex Berenson. There is also a large selection of audio books available. Color Time and Knitting

WINTERS - Color Time and Knitting sessions will be held from noon to 3 p.m. every Wednesday at the Winters Public Library. Participants for Color Time can select project from coloring books at the library and the colored pencils will be provided. Relax to music while coloring and may come and go at their convenience. Knitting session participants are asked to bring their yarn. Those who are just learning, may get help from an instructor.

BALLINGER - Make plans to come by the Art Gallery located in the lobby of the Cook Professional Building at 804 Hutchins Ave. in downtown Ballinger. Visitors will see a variety of paintings on display by a featured artist of the month plus other art from members of the Mid-West Texas Artist Guild at the Do-Art Studio. The exhibit and sale times are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and varied times on Friday.

Meals on Wheels

BALLINGER - Do you want to do something to help your fellow community members? Volunteers are needed for the Meals on Wheels Plus program in Ballinger. WINTERS - The Winters Public Library has public access Internet computers and free WiFi. The library is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Screenings offered

WINTERS - Runnels County residents may obtain diabetes and blood pressure screenings at the Winters Public Library from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 19 or the third Wednesday of each month. Do not eat before the screening for the best results. The library is closed at that time, so those wishing to obtain a screening must enter through the back door of the library o Grant Street. For the best results for this test, do not eat two hours before screening.

CASA volunteers wanted

The Children's Advocacy Center of Tom Green County, Inc. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is seeking volunteers. Currently CASA serves 60 percent of the children in foster care. Visit Friendly Neighbors

The Texas Extension Education Agency “Friendly Neighbors” invites everybody in the Runnels County area who is interested in learning about cooking, gardening, arts and crafts and other useful subjects to meetings at 2 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month (except during the summer). Meetings will alternate between the Runnels County Extension Office on the corner of south 7th Street and Sealy Ave. in Ballinger and the Winters Public Library at 120 N. Main St. in Winters. Masonic Lodge meeting

The Ballinger Masonic Lodge #643 meets on the first Monday evening of each month at 7 p.m. at the lodge at 500 North Broadway. A meal will be served following each meeting. All District 105 Masons and those in the area, are encouraged to attend and meet for fellowship.

Carnegie Library hours

The Carnegie Library in Ballinger is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. The library is currently closed Saturday and Sunday. Children's Story Hour and Crafts is at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday. The Shakespeare Room is available for rent for events. In addition the Mary Sykes Auditorium is for rent for weddings and banquets.

The City of Ballinger’s Recycling Center, located at South 7th Street and Sealy Avenue, is open from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday. The recycling center is open from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Saturday, the recycling center is open from 8 a.m. to noon.

WIC open to many incomes and families

Women Infants and Children, (WIC) located at 706 Strong Ave. in Ballinger is open from 7 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. WIC is closed every third and fourth Monday of each month. Phone 325-365-5925.

Wingate Masonic Lodge meetings

The Wingate Masonic Lodge will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m on Saturday, May 27 at the lodge in Wilmeth. The Wingate Masonic Lodge 1042 A.F. & A.M., meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month, at the Wilmeth Lodge.

Paint Rock Masonic Lodge meetings
