WINTERS – A man traveling through Winters, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and THC, and was reportedly transporting cannabis products purchased in Colorado, officials with the Winters Police Department reported.

WINTERS – A man traveling through Winters, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and THC, and was reportedly transporting cannabis products purchased in Colorado, officials with the Winters Police Department reported.

Ruben Cavazos, 27, of Bishop, 30 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, was detained on a routine traffic stop on Highway 153 at 2 p.m. on Saturday July 29. Winters Police Officer Laramie Stone reportedly detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and received permission to conduct a search of the vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, Cavazos was found to be in possession of 3.4 pounds of marijuana a felony amount of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the potent ingredient in marijuana.

“He had traveled to Colorado and was returning to Texas,” Winters Police Chief Paula Geyer said. “He had purchased (cannabis products) it in Colorado.”

Cavazos was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony. He was released Sunday, July 30 from the Runnels County Jail after posting bonds totaling $20,000.
