BALLINGER – The Ballinger Bearcats will report to two-a-days Monday Aug. 7.

Ballinger Athletic Director Coach Chuck Lipsey said all players will report to the locker room to get their workout gear at 7 p.m. But all players must have a physical and medical history form filled out the day they report.

In a letter to the players, Lipsey said "we are excited and looking forward to the upcoming football season."

Lipsey also sent a schedule of practice times and events for the month of August.

The Bearcats play their first scrimmage against Jim Ned on Aug. 18 followed by a scrimmage on Aug. 24 against the Winters Blizzards. The first official game of the season will be at Bearcat Stadium against Comanche.

This will be Lipsey’s first season heading up the Bearcats, after he was hired in May.

“I want to develop a program that is the best in West Texas,” Lipsey said after he was hired by the district.

Lipsey is coming to Ballinger after a two-year stint in Brady, where he was 11-11 with a couple of playoff appearances, the Standard Times reported.

Lipsey fills the position left vacant after Coach David Jones resigned Thursday, April 13. Jones replaced Justin Wiley in 2015 and posted a two year record of 9-12 including two playoff appearances.

Lipsey served as head coach at Bangs ISD for seven seasons before heading to Brady to coach the Bulldogs in 2015.

Lipsey, a graduate of Mason High School and Angelo State University, went 6-5 in his first season as a head coach with Winters in 2001. The next season, he led the Blizzards to a 12-3 record and a trip to the state semifinals.

Lipsey was hired as an assistant coach in Winters in 1990, where he worked alongside Ballinger ISD superintendent and then-fellow coach, Jeff Butts.
