BALLINGER - Artist Lue Kraatz is the Artist of the Month for the Mid-West Texas Artist Guild and her work will be featured throughout the month at the Cook Gallery located at 804 Hutchings Ave. in Ballinger.

She began painting through paint by number kits and recalled purchasing one of the famous artist Bob Ross’s kits in 2000 with a friend and was inspired from then on to continue painting.

Kraatz joined MWTAG in 2007 and since then has learned a variety of mediums including acrylic, watercolor, pastels, pencil and oil, with oil being the medium she prefers.

“Painting is a great pastime,” Kraatz said, emphasizing how much she enjoys doing it.

Birds are her favorite subject to paint and she takes time to make sure the birds are painted down to every last feather, she said.

Kraatz is one of the members who teaches the children at the Summer Art Camp each June.

To see her work, visit the Cook Gallery or the Do-Art Studio at 108 S. 9th St. to see her work as well as that of other Guild members.
