Phyllis Poe has been selected as "Artist of the Month" by the Mid-West Texas Artist Guild for August. Poe is a charter member of the Mid-West Texas Artists Guild and resides in Bronte. In 2006-07, Phyllis created a 6'x12' oil painting for her church, the Church of Christ in Bronte. which is displayed above the baptismal in the church auditorium.

Art classes in junior high and high school in Odessa created a lifelong passion for painting. Over the years she has continued painting and studying with several teachers in Grand Prairie, Waxahachie, and Ballinge.

While her favorite medium is oil, she also paints with pastel chalk. Poe says her primary inspiration is nature, especially the changing of the seasons. Included in her exhibit are a set of seasonal paintings and several American Indian paintings in pastel chalk.

The members of the MWTAG invite everyone to visit the gallery to view Poe's work as well as work by other members of the Guild. The Cook Gallery, located at 804 Hutchings Ave. is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
